"On Our Way" Series 2024

“On Our Way” Series Summary
We all struggle with how to live a whole life.  At the center of everything is a loving God.
If you believe it, God loves each of us and wants us to love one another and all creation, how does this loving God shape your life?  Join us for worship this spring as we explore practices that help us on our way to living a whole life attentively, together, in the real world, for the good of all, in response to God.

Apr. 7 | Easter 2
FRIENDSHIP: True friends accept us.  They allow us to let down our guard and help us take risks.  Friendships build trust through honesty, attentiveness, and respect.  In John 15:9-17, Jesus affirms his friendship with us.  How do friendships grow over time?

Apr. 14 | Easter 3
PEACEMAKING: Making peace requires a deep love for others.  In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.  How does God’s love lead to peace?

Apr. 21 | Easter 4
CARING FOR CREATION: Protecting nature is a form of discipleship.  In 1 John 3:16-24, the writer teaches that loving and caring for one another brings us all closer to God.  What has creation taught you about God?

Apr. 28 | Easter 5
DISCERNING GOD’S CALL: Each of us has a unique call from God, and we want to understand how God is leading us.  In 1 Samuel 3:1-10, the young boy Samuel believes his mentor Eli is waking him in the middle of the night, but Eli helps Samuel hear the summons as coming from God.  How do you experience communication from God?

May 5 | Easter 6
NEIGHBORING PEOPLE OF OTHER FAITHS: We live in a world of many religious traditions.  Christians have sometimes responded to our neighbors of different faiths with hostility.  But Christ teaches us to be good neighbors by bridging differences and creating a human community based on mutual respect and cooperation.  In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus tells about a loving encounter with someone of a different faith.  When have you encountered people of other faiths?

May 12 | Easter 7 | Mothers’ Day
HONORING THE BODY: Although each person is different, everyone is made in God’s image and valued equally.  One way to honor the divine image in all of us is by caring for our bodies and the bodies of others.  In 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Paul teaches that we are interconnected, united in the body of Christ.  He says: “If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part gets the glory, all the parts celebrate with it.”  How well do you treat your body?

May 19 | Pentecost
LIVING AS COMMUNITY: Living as community calls for active and authentic care for one another.  In Acts 4:32-35, the early church demonstrates a community that cares for each other in meaningful and life-giving ways.  When have you received care from someone?

May 26 | Trinity Sunday
DOING JUSTICE: We often focus on taking care of ourselves and being self-sufficient, but the Bible reminds us we are interdependent, and ultimately, we rely on God.  Living in a way that considers the common good leads to the flourishing of all people.  In Exodus 16:14-21, God provides enough manna for all the Israelites, but they must not horde it for themselves.  What human need speaks to your heart?
