Pauses for Lent Series 2018

Image
Pauses for Lent Series In our busy, noisy lives, we need time and space for God.  To paraphrase Albert Einstein, you’re as good as dead unless you pause to wonder. 1   In mid-February, I will lead a new series called “Pauses for Lent,” inspired by Trevor Hudson’s book by the same title.  Hudson is a South African Methodist pastor and says: “The art of pausing carves out space in your hectic life for you to listen to God.” 2   Or as William Longstaff’s 1882 hymn puts it: “Take time to be holy.” 3   Lent is a time for contemplation and reflection.  It is an opportunity to confront the frenetic pace and materialism in our life.  Lent invites us to become more deliberate followers of Jesus Christ. During both series, I will also lead an adult discussion group on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlor.  ______________ 1 Albert Einstein, Living Philosophies (New York, NY: Simon and Schuster, 1931), quoted at https://sciphilos...
