UPDATE: All gatherings suspended, including worship.  The food pantry will continue to distribute food. The Village of Wilmette has requested that houses of worship suspend all activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Trinity Church will comply with this request. As winter turns into spring, we see signs of new life around us.   In late February, I heard the unmistakable call of a killdeer, an indicator in our part of the world that migratory birds are beginning to move into position for a new nesting season.   Even while conditions seem harsh and inhospitable, God is nudging the world with a determined, life-giving pulse.   Beneath snow-covered, frozen ground, wildflowers are also preparing to emerge.   One of my favorites is the great white trillium that can be found in our local forest preserves in mid-spring.   These native flowers evoke the trumpet-like image of an Easter lily, and the triad of petals suggests the three-in-one beauty of the Holy Trinity.   Vernal events of nature can reinforce our faith in Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead and extends the promise of new life to us.   At Easter, our stories and songs about the resurrection remind us that Jesus embodied an enduring way...
