“I See You” Series Overview

God creates, knows, loves, and sees all of us in our full humanity.  But as people, we can fall into the habit of assuming everyone is the same or everyone is like us.  While we share a common humanity, these assumptions can be harmful and prevent us from truly seeing other people and listening to their perspectives.  By looking at biblical stories, we can learn how to listen to, respect, affirm, and act for and with others.  Doing so can help us to know God even more fully. 

 

July 4

HEARING OTHER VOICES: We can be so busy that we stop listening. Yet, as Christians, we cannot fully engage in our mission without taking the time to hear the voices on the side of the road.  In Mark 10:46-52, Jesus hears the voice of a blind man.  Who are the people nobody listens to?


July 11

SISTERS ARE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES: Certain social customs and public policies create inequality and result in unjust consequences.  In Numbers 27:1-11, women call for reforming the inheritance practices that leave them vulnerable.  What can you do to address injustice?

 

July 18

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. THE STRANGER: Immigrants often become targets of hostility.  In the Scriptures, however, God blesses those who treat the stranger with kindness and curses those who do not. In Deuteronomy 10:14-22, God’s people are instructed to love the immigrant because once they were immigrants.  What countries did your ancestors live in?

 

July 25

DIVERSE PEOPLE, ONE VISION: We cannot truly love other people unless we also affirm how God sees all people.  By affirming the fullness of our humankind, we experience God more fully.  In Revelation 7:9-17, the ancient seer has a vision of people from every nation, tribe, and language standing before the Lamb of God.  When have you felt the power of unity?
