From the Pastor - October 2016

Dear Trinity Friends,

One of the communities near my hometown is considered the Pumpkin Capital of the World.  The Libby’s plant in Morton, Illinois, claims to can eighty-five percent (85%) of the world’s pumpkin.  It is a point of pride for the whole town, which began hosting an annual Pumpkin Festival fifty years ago. 

At Trinity, we are quite proud of our pumpkin patch.  Because of our pumpkin patch efforts, the world is a better place for a lot of people. 

For the last eighteen years, Trinity’s pumpkin patch has been our top fundraising effort for local and global projects.  Half of the funds are distributed to the Wilmette Food Pantry, A Just Harvest, Trinity Church youth missions, Boy Scout Troop 3, Wilmette Police/Clergy Emergency Fund, Northwestern University Christian Ministry, and the various Senegal Mission initiatives.  The remaining half is designated for part of our United Methodist apportionments, the “first mile” of our mission giving. 

This year, the pumpkins arrive on Sunday, October 2.  We will be fortunate to have help from the Boy Scouts and students from University Christian Ministry at Northwestern, but it will take more than that.  We need people to help sell them, too.  I have already signed up for the first shift on Wednesdays.  I hope you will do your part.
